SRM Concrete has emerged as Texas’ largest ready mixed producer after a deal for 82 plants and 11 volumetric mixer loading sites from Vulcan Materials Co., which inherited the bulk of the properties in its 2021 U.S. Concrete Inc. takeover. The transaction is the parties’ second of the year, which opened with SRM relieving Vulcan of the USC-Atlantic ready mixed concrete sites in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

SRM established a sizable central Texas and Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex footprint in early-2022, closing on Martin Marietta Materials and Charley’s Concrete ready mixed operations. The latest transaction was announced days after Martin Marietta agreed to sell 20 ready mixed concrete plants serving the Austin and San Antonio, Texas markets as part of a $2.1 billion deal with CRH Americas Materials.

“We’re excited about welcoming more than 1,100 new team members to our SRM family,” says CEO Jeff Hollingshead. “We will be gaining nearly 100 new locations and a significant amount of equipment, but what really matters to us is the people. It’s their skills and experience that are our true assets.” Along with Austin and San Antonio, he adds, the acquisition marks SRM’s entry into the Abilene and Amarillo markets and strengthens its DFW and Houston presence.
